Vintage 1940s mechanical fur clip is depicted in Kathy Flood's Costume Jewelry reference book. 1 3/4" gnome or leprechaun has movable arms and legs, and enameled costume in green and brown. He wears a metal pendant tag around his neck that reads "Golly Wog Lucky Charm." In excellent condition, the plating is shiny and enameling mostly intact, apart from a few fleabite dots of missing enamel (primarily on the face and belly). The term Golliwog has, historically, been used in association with "blackface," racially stereotyped characters, but this character does not fall into that category. The term seems to have been co-opted for this leprechaun-like character. - $140
